Teresa Franqueira

Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal

Is a designer and holds a PhD in Design. As a designer, she has participated in several national and international exhibitions and has developed both interior design projects and projects for the Portuguese glass industry. She has also been a jury member of several design competitions, and a consultant to the Design+ programme promoted by the CPD (Portuguese Design Centre). She was also commissioner for the More Design More Industry Programme in Paredes.

She has been lecturing at the University of Aveiro since 2001 and has developed her research with Ezio Manzini at the Politecnico di Milano.

Teresa is a senior researcher at the ID+ Research Centre, coordinator of the ID+ DESIS Lab, and a member of the international DESIS Network – Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability. Her research interests focus on themes related to service design and social innovations, and alternative scenarios towards more sustainable economic and social models. Within this scope she has published various papers and participated in several international conferences. She has been invited as a keynote speaker and to take part in several workshops, particularly in relation to scenario building and the identification of possible solutions to be used for specific projects in creative places (Italy, Portugal, Sweden, UK, Finland and Brazil).

Gonçalo Gomes

Assistant professor at Universidade de Aveiro, since 2007, where he is responsible for the Projecto em Design Básico (Basic Design Project) and Projecto em Design 1 (Design Project I) subjects. He is also, since is foundation, researcher for the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture [ID+] where he develops studies in the field of Participatory Design for the Future Cultural Heritage and, since 2012, he is also Operations Manager of the ID+ DESIS Lab, a member of the international DESIS Network – Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability.

Besides that, he is a designer and a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Design of the Universidade de Aveiro where he is working on the thesis “Towards a significant cultural heritage: the construction and intervention in the design perspective”.

João Sampaio

Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal

João Nunes Sampaio graduated in Industrial Design at University of Aveiro and subsequently completed his masters at the School of Engineering, University of Porto. From 2006 to 2009, he was a visiting lecturer in Industrial Design at the University of Coimbra’s Faculty of Science and Technology. João is currently a PhD student at the University of Aveiro, where he has been assistant lecturing in design to masters level, since 2009.

His research aims to investigate collaborative strategies and operative tools for design practice to facilitate cases of sustainable urban scenarios – whereby co-design platforms encourage an active approach, involving the people in the development process, leading to effective and holistic solutions.

Miriam Reis

Miriam Reis is a graduated designer in Communication Design at Universidade de Aveiro and completed her master in Design at the same University. She’s Assistant professor at Escola Superior Aveiro Norte – Universidade de Aveiro, since 2005, and also, since its foundation in 2007, researcher for the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture [ID+] where she develops studies in the field of illustration, communication and design for health. She’s also a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Design of the Universidade de Aveiro where she is working on the thesis “knowledge paths that are designed when playing: design in the development of touch narratives for deaf children”

Pedro Carvalho de Almeida

Pedro Carvalho de Almeida is a communication designer, educator and researcher. He holds a masters degree in Design, Materials and Product Management from the University of Aveiro, Portugal and a Ph.D in Design from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. His doctoral research project was funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), addressing the recovery, organization and use of brand archives as key strategic resources for brand innovation. He specializes in organizational visual identity and brand semiotics. Previous communication design work includes brand mark designs, visual identity systems, consultancy and training for a broad range of organizations in Portugal and the UK. He is Auxiliary Professor at the Communication and Arts Department, University of Aveiro and was an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London where he recently completed a post-doctoral fellowship funded through an award from the AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) for Cultural Engagement. His teaching covers visual identity and brand design, strategic design, design management, product semantics, visual research methods and contextual studies, across BA, MA and PhD levels. He is member of the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture (ID+), Portugal, and also member of the Scientific Board at the Faculty of Fine Arts University of Porto in representation of ID+.
 

Ana Afonso

Ana Afonso is a designer graduated at the University of Aveiro, where she completed her master in Design. Currently she is a researcher for the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture [ID+], and is finishing her PHD on the matter of Portuguese Anonymous Design and their contribution to product development in Portugal.
